Therapeutic Services

Therapy is available for adults, children, couples, and families to treat a variety of presenting issues. Typically therapy for young children (ages 0-5) will include the caregiver(s). Therapy can be provided in the office or by telemedicine.

Therapeutic Interventions that have research evidence of their effectiveness offered at Woods Psychological Services include:

  • Attachment Biobehavioral Catch-up (ABC)

    ABC is an evidence-based intervention for newborns to children up to four years old and their parents. The intervention is family based and designed to support caregivers who are parenting young children with early adversity such as medical issues, trauma histories, and/or child protection involvement. It is also designed to serve children who have families struggling with mental illness and substance use disorders.   • Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP)

    CPP is an evidence-based intervention for children ages birth through five years old. The intervention is family based and treats children and families with early adversity. For more information on CPP, please look at the CPP website: https://childparentpsychotherapy.com

  • Coping Cat

    Coping Cat is an evidence-based intervention for children ages seven through thirteen-years-old struggling with anxiety disorders. Our clinic delivers Coping Cat to children alongside their parents to help parents learn skills to support their children’s struggles with anxiety.

  • Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)

    ERP is an evidence-based intervention for children ages 5 to 17 that treats symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorders and phobias. This treatment requires parent involvement to support exposure activities and to generalize skills learned in treatment.

  • Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

    PCIT is an evidenced-based intervention for children ages three through seven years old who are struggling with attention issues, anxiety, and oppositionality. The intervention is family based. For more information on PCIT, please look at the PCIT website: http://www.pcit.org.

  • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

  • Circles of Security Parenting Intervention (COS)

    COS is an evidence-based intervention for parents and children that focuses on attachment and emotional resilience. For more information on Circle of Security, please see the website: https://www.circleofsecurityinternational.com

  • Play Therapy

    Play therapy is a form of psychotherapy and can be effective in helping children through emotional and mental issues. Children often use play to express themselves and navigate the world.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

    Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of mental health problems. CBT places an emphasis on helping individuals develop skills and capacities to change their own thinking, problematic emotions, and behavior. This may be done through exercises in the session as well as “homework” exercises outside of sessions to develop coping skills.

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) – Individual Only

    DBT is a treatment intervention that combines both psychotherapy and skills training to help adolescents and adults to enhance their own capacities. Focus areas include mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotional regulation

Note: health insurance often covers all or part of outpatient therapy.  However, it is important to verify coverage with your insurance provider prior to scheduling the service.  In most cases couples therapy is not covered by health insurance.
